Have a 2000 MERCURY TRACKER 25hp on a jon boat I bought about a month ago. Had the guy crank it up and run it for about 5 mins. brought it home and fixed up the boat for bowfishing and now it will not run. I can get it to run by spraying mixed gas in the carb but cuts off as soon as it burns off. replaced spark plugs, cleaned fuel filter, checked all the gas lines. Help please!?!

Re: 2000 tracker problem

It sounds like a fuel problem for sure. Use a piece of clear plastic hose and place it in between the fuel pump and carb and remove the rubber hose to be able to watch the fuel flow to the carb. If there are any air bubbles in the hose you have a air leak in the fuel system ,and if the fuel is not being pumped to good the fuel pump might need to be rebuilt. If all is good there then the carb will need to be cleaned/rebuilt as it has the jets pluged up or the inlet needle/float is sticking and not letting the fuel to flow. Just remmber to replace the clear hose with the rubber one you have taken off as it is not rated for gas and will go bad if left in the system. Also make sure the control is in netural as there is a safety switch that will not let the motor start when it is in gear. JMO
