2000 Johnson 70hp J70PLSSD, lower unit

I have all bolts removed, unit is loose but I can't find how to disconnect linkage, there is no bolt under carbs. Help

It's a slotted screw thats mounted to an aluminum arm, the top of the shift rod is basically an eyebolt that fits into this assembly, its there behind the wiring harness and fuel lines. Once you have this out, it will drop, so make sure it is supported.

I know you are right in where to find it however I do not think my shift rod is shaped like an eye bolt, it appears to bend 90 degrees towards the bow for about an inch then back vertical, I know there has to be a screw but I cannot see it or get to it, i may to remove the starter to get a better look. and with the bend I do not see how the rod would pass back down through the cowling below the motor.

Yes, it is offset toward the front, unless someone has rigged it, it will be on the port side under the carbs.
