Hi, I'm a Boat Mechanic by trade but not real familar with OB trim system internals. I'm more of a I/O Guy. This boat is not a customers, It happens to be my ex-wife's so I'm not Charging her and it's eating my Lunch....See what I get for trying to be nice... Lol
Ok so It's a 2000 50hp with the single ram and relief screw on the back not on the side. It came in working but would noticably leak down. It had no signs of leaks but sounded alittle low on fluid but would go all the way up. I checked the relief valve first, then checked the fluid with it up. Alot or pressure and fluid came out. I tried refilling it and it wouldn't moved either way after a while of bleeding it. I have a service manual from 1999 which looks similar but they show the relief on the side.
So I got a seal kit, replaced all the seals, orings and scrapers on the main ram. Then the o-rinds on the up check valve. My relief valve has 1 larger o-ring towards the head and a flat rubber seal on the end. It has another groove in the middle that looks like a o-ring could go but it wasn't there. Now after trying to bleed it with the ram disconnected, it's moving up and down but wont hold any weight. I can push it down with my hand. Now I hooked the motor back up and on the locks it pulls down hard on the motor but won't go up, not even to release the downward pressure. If I turn the manual release, it will release the pressure and I hear alot of air/fluid movement. . So it sounds like the release screw is good. It seems like its not making up pressure. I'm wondering if there is any check valves under the electric motor that would do this. Could the filter valve and seat be causing this? I don't really want to take the whole assy off because the bottom rod is tight but I can tilt the assy back and work on it that way. Thanks for any help.
