Hello every one,
I am a new boat owner with a big problem!
I bought a 2000 Ranger bay boat with a E225FFI
evinrude engine .I was going about 4o mph when
the engine just stopped. No warning lights came
on,oil, water pressure,or heat. The upper block
has a hole in it about an 1" around. The engine
has about 100 hrs on it.
A) Does this engine type have a bad history
of problems?
B) What would cause such a big hole in the block?
C) Is a 100hrs alot of use on a engine? Thanks>JamesBO

A-yes this engines have a very bad history ,rather then tell you them all you can do a search on this site here all the bad news.
B-hole hole in the block is caused by the connecting rod going through the side of the block.
C-100 hours for any other o/b is low but for a ficht it's amazing.I've heard of people having there powerhead replaced and then blowing 10-20 hours later.
OMC tried many updates before they went bankruped. When Bombarier bought the outboard side of OMC they drew a line in the sand as far as warranties go(1999 ).Then the put their enginiers to work on fixing the problems. They have re-launched this engines under the E-TECH name.
Some people have had some success with the older engines by keeping up with all the updates(mainly maping and other programing changes in the ECU/EMM )and proping the boat to the top end of WOT.
Unless you can get a great deal on repairs I would recommend repowering your boat.
Good Luck.

Don't think you have to much hope there. You have a 2000 engine and its almost 04.You said your the second owner, did you get it from a dealer ? If so see what the dealer can do for you,a dealer with a good repour with Bmbardier can get a lot more then you could. As far as the new E-techs go Your guess is as good as mine. One advantage to repower with a Bmbardier product is you don't need to change controls or wiring to the engine.
If you do replace the powerhead the same thing may happen again .Some people do buy them like Dhadley but you won't get much.
Best advice cut your loses and repower.
