Re: 2000 Blazer + 14-foot Alumacraft
We had an '02 2 door Bkazer 4.3L. It pulled a 17' FG boat and trailer which weighed 2400 Lb. plus fuel, ice, gear, two persons and a dog in the car. I took it easy, driving in Florida, and made many trips across the state and back. It used to hunt for 4th gear, though, and even though I never went over 65, it kept upshifting. One day the tranny failed and had to be rebuilt. I kept using the Blazer for a few more cross-Florida trips, but never felt at ease with it. I slowed down to about 55 mph tops, and used 3rd gear a lot, with no further problem. The manual says that vehicle is rated at 6,000 Lb. towing capacity. Now there are tougher SAE J2087 standards which are in effect for all cars. I wonder if the '02 Blazer would still be rated at 6,000 Lb. under those stricter rules. Anyway, I'm sure your rig is lots lighter and should give no problem. Just watch out for upshifting and avoid it by slowing down or driving in 3rd.
