2000 bayliner capri 1850 lx sport vs 1998 glastron 185sx

Hello everyone, just registered new to this site,my name is rob and I'm from toronto, I'm new to the boat world and I was looking to purchase one of these boats. Is there any specific thing about these boats that I should know about? The primary use is just cruising, various watersports and fishing. The bayliner has the 4.3 merc and the glastron has the 4.3 volvo. The bayliner the seller is asking 13,000 which seems a bit much for the year, and the glastronis asking 11,500. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to iboats!

Both sound way overpriced to me. I don't know if there's a Canadian equivalent to the NADA guides, but that's where I'd start if there is. With boats that old, it's how they've been maintained that makes the biggest difference.

They both seemed overpriced , just curious to know what they should go for. They are both in great shape but without any hour meter its hard to say how many hours are on it.

All things being equal I'd go with the Glastron. But as Bob says, the value a a 10 or 12 year old boat depends mostly on the TLC it has or has not gotten--along with engine hours.

I have not seen the glastron in person yet however it seems very nice in the pictures, is a boat 3 years older then the bayliner that much better? I've heard some postives and negatives about bayliners, but then again this is my first boat , not looking to spend a lot of money.

At 10 - 12 years old, I'd pay more attention to the maintenance, storage, and general upkeep of the boat than the name on the side of it. It could be a cream puff, or a junker depending on how it was treated. Best to take a look at both and decide.

I don't know how different the market is on the other side of the lake, but those prices sound way high to me (we bought our 2006 Procraft - 21', 200 Merc - for the about the same price as that bayliner last year. It was in pristeen condition.) Good luck and happy shopping.

The owner said it has been meticulously maintained , professionally winterized and routinely serviced. If all goes well seeing the engine is in good shape, (the owner said he will run it for me) is there any issues with the 4.3 volvo penta that I should know about? once again thanks again for the help

that is an interesting setup. its the cross of a fishing boat on a runabout bowrider platform! i guess you get the best of both worlds!

do you plan on fishing? if not i think you are going to be upset in time with the unnatural seating arrangement.

I think it's one of the better designed Fish 'n Skis that I've seen. A lot of others just look like they slapped a trolling motor on a ski boat. That one has a nice design.
