I have a 2000 90 HP Mercury engine I just bought on a used Boston Whaler.. Records show about 200 hours on it .. Compression and general shap are OK

Took it to local Merc dealer for tune up , leg oil change and new impeller.

They have had it 10 days trying to solve a cylinder that misses.

They stripped down carb and cleaned, order a new electronic module,, still stumbling.

Can someone give some insite for me to pass on to them, or should I take engine to another dealer..?

thanks
Drew

They are a very simple engine... Find out if the problem is a loss of spark....

Easy enough to swap coils from cylinder to cylinder to check em, I find a lot of these motors have one or more coils replaced at some point. Usually because someone cranked the motor excessively without grounding the plug which shorts the coil internally.

Always ground your plugs!;)
