2000 90 V4 Johnson Cutting out

Runs great 20-30 minutes at 4000+ RPM. Then like clock work motor starts to hesitate like it is running out of fuel. Will run fine at 2500 and below after that. No alarms. Cooling system operational already pulled and check water pump. Have not replaced thermostats yet. One idea I have heard is the stator getting hot at high end. Has anyone heard of stator problems with this model? Is the SLOW activating? If so how can I check? Lot's of questions has anyone experienced and repaired this problem?

is you primer bulb going flat? if so clogged fuel tank vent. it also could be a coil or power pack getting warm and failing. this is not typical of a stator problem. check your spark immediately after it starts to act up. and your fuel bulb.

I have already been through all of the basic fuel system checks.

check you spark as said. note which one is not firing. then completely swap that coil with one that you know is working. if the problem follows the coil, the coil is bad, if it stays at the hole, the power pack is bad. you have 2 power packs, each services 2 coils.

Why would it run geat for a half an hour? If a coil is bad it's bad I don't think it runs for a certain time and then goes bad.

That motor should be a FFI engine. Check the water seperator for moisture and also have the lift pump checked.Could be a bad injector or EMM problem or a shift interuppter switch out of adjustment. Could be a bad coil as Tasha suggested so check spark when engine problem occurs.

I have already checked fuel system. Reading past logs it sounds like other owners have had the same symptoms. Hopefully someone who has repaired this problem will log on and reply.
