I have twin 250hp mercurys, the starboard motor will not start sometimes. The boat mechanic said that the injectors were staying open because of some trash in them and flooding the motor. You can push the throttle release button in and push it all the way forward like starting a flooded car, it will fire up then. It is getting fire to the plugs. I don't know if the injectors are the problem as there are twin motors and if there was trash in the fuel getting into one motor how come it is not getting into the other? Dose anyone know if the ECU would throw a fault code if the motor was not malfunctioning at the time the diagnostic unit was hooked up to the motor or would it store a code from when the motor would not start. Thank you for any thoughts as to what is going on.

Re: 2000 250hp mercury troubles

Without an O2 sensor the outboard EFI system will not register any fault from leaky injectors or a leaking primary fuel pump.

I wouldn't think a faulty primary pump would affect all cyls nor would a even a couple of leaking injectors.

A Temp sensor not registering a cold engine could cause a 'warm' idle mixture which could be problematic as the cold engine requires a richer mixture to start.

Remove the temp sensor and Ohm's test, heat it in a pan of water and retest at 160, check your results against the service manual.
