My boat was moored at shore when sudden rain storm and huge waves swamped my boat. Water got in the fuel compartment, but not in my tank (I don't think). After storm, was able to pump all water out of the boat. Motor fired right up, but died after running 1/4 mile. Has not run since. I can get it started but only runs for a second or two. Please help!

Maybe I should have said will start, but won't run more than a couple of seconds. I could really use some advise if someone has any.

As Norman said, you have water in your fuel. Drain the tanks,or use gas-dri sticks to pull the water out. Remove the bowl on the carb, and drain the water out of it. Pull the plugs, dry, and re-install them.
