Hello everyone,
First, some info about the boat. 1995 javelin 409 20” with a 2000 225 Johnson 2 stroke. I got this boat about 6 months ago from the owner of a boat shop which was his personal boat. It was kept in his shop and just sat. The fiberglass hull is in great shape for the year. The motor runs great and doesn’t miss a beat and has great acceleration. Now for the issues. One issue I have is when the motor is lowered it jumps so much it seems like it will jump right off of the back of the boat. I was told this is just air and I was told it needs oil. I checked the tilt oil and it seemed ok, black but ok level wise. I did bleed some air out and seemed to help but started up again. The other issue is it ran hot and wouldn’t start. I let it cool for about 30 minutes then it started right up. Never had an issue again. I will say this was after running for a longtime but still should that happen?

When you say it jumps are you talking about the trim and tilt? A rough running motor that seems to bounce around in its mount? A little more clarity would be helpful.

As far as running hot...was that in the lake under load? On muffs in the driveway? Again, the whole story is always better.

All new to you motors should always have the impeller changed at a minimum. Especially if you bought it from a guy in the business. If he's anything like my friends and I he just doesn't have the time to work on his own stuff.

The motor doesn’t jump at all when I am driving it. It only jumps when I am stopped in the water or out. But it is the trim for sure only when I trim down. It doesn’t seem to do it when I trim down while on plane. It ran hot in the lake right after running across a lake and had been running all morning from spot to spot so maybe it didn’t have time to cool down. I’m talking about hours straight only stopping for about 20 minutes here and there

When it ran hot, I may have got in some mud but if I did it wasn’t much. The motor never stopped pissing and it was clear the whole time

Tilt cylinder needs replacing as dragging internally...reason trim fluid is black.
