Hey everyone im a new mercury owner with some questions. I had a older 70 horse johnson on a venture. It was a great learner boat. I just bought a 2000 nitro nx 750. So far i absolutly love it. The motor is a pain for me to start. I can get it to hit and fire but it takes probably 6-7 times of that for it to finally run and idle. Once it runs i let it run for around 8-10 minutes. According to the rpm guage if its accurate, its idleing around 3000 to 3200 rpms. I know this is way to high. Is there something to check. Allright what would the starting procedure be? This boat doesnt have the lever for the high idle but it looks like its got a button on the throttle lever. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Re: 2000- 125 tracker elpto

I had this motor for a few years (1998 model), and it took a process to get it to idle in neutral.

1. Advance the throttle. If no lever, you should be able to push a "button" of sorts on the middle part of your throttle lever and advance the throttle that way.
2. Turn key to on (not start)
3. Press key in for 5 to 8 seconds (enricher)
4. Start engine

I would leave it on a fast idle for 30 seconds or so before I brought it back to normal. It would start normally if I didn't sit to long in one place, but otherwise I'd have to go through this each time. I found it easy to start the engine and let it run while I got everything ready in the boat to move spots.

I had a few issues with the RPM gauge on my boat/motor. I'd have to knock the gauge itself every now and then to get it back to normal. Does it sound like it's at 3200 rpm? That's a very fast idle.
