200 Johnson Troubles

I have a 92'200 Johnson. The other day I was on the lake and was idoling and the motor quit. When i went to restart all the electronics were dead. I tried to hook up the second battery and it would arc when i touched the positive cable on the new battery. When i took off the engine cover i could see a big wire had completely fried. I cut the wire and was able to hook up the spare battery to get the engine trimmed up. I followed the wire to a part in the top/rear of the block and removed the part. From reading other people posts i believe this part is the rectifier/regulator. I think the cause of the part failure was the part above the rectifier was leaking. I believe this part is called the power pack. I guess it was overheating and leaking epoxy on the rectifier and fried it. Do i have the names of the correct parts here? and if i simply change the parts will that take care of my problems? Where is the cheapest place to get them? Any info would be appreciate. My son wants me to bring him fishing again.

Welcome!!

I was just in New Orleans for Memorial Day. We had a blast.

Anyway you got it right except I'd bet the rectifier caught on fire and then wiped out the pack. Not common but it happens. Check out the packs and electrical products made by CDI. I'm sure Iboats sells what you need. Ignore the price. These are components that you want quality. Not some bargin basement stuff. CDI prices are very reasonable.
