Can anybody tell me the difference between a 200 hp Johnson and a 225 hp Johnson? It seems they have the same bore and stroke. I'm talking about the 1994 Venom model. Is it the compressio ratio?
Also if I bore mine 30 over, will I get more horsepower? If so how mich?

Re: 200 hp Johnson

The 1994 200 and 225 powerheads have the same part number. Same block (therefore same port timing), crank, rods, pistons and heads. Some models had slightly different heads. They all use the same intakes and reeds. They all have the same gear ratio. There are some differences in carb assemblies.

You'll be hard pressed to see any difference between a 200 and a 225 on most hulls. Even on a performance hull.

Boring .060 over has little effect on torque. I wouldn't bore to .030 just in hopes of gaining anything. All youll do is lose the ability to bore to .020 if needed.

What is it youre trying to do? On what boat?

Dhadley-
So if you rejet the carbs, you can make a 200 into 225 :D :D :D

Not really. There are different size venturis and throttle bodies. It'll still be hard to see the difference even on most performance hulls.

Re: 200 hp Johnson

Thanks for the info. I'm an old V-8 guy, first time I've rebuilt a two stroke. I lost the no. 2 sleeve and piston. My boat is a 1994 Stratos 21.5 foot bass boat. I guess I should just sleeve no. 2, bore it .020 over and go from there? Any special things I need to know when I put it back together? Sending the block out next week for machine work.

You lost a sleeve and piston???? How'd they get out? Do you remember about where you were when you lost them? Maybe someone has seen them...

If you cant find them and you have to put in a new sleeve, why bore it? Why not leave it standard?

If you're going to sleeve #2 hole, why would you go .020" over? Standard bore....

Why would I use a standard bore on just one cylinder when the other five will be .020 over?

Re: 200 hp Johnson

Because the piston in std. thru any size over, still weigh the same. Dynamic balance in .020 is not even measurable. Leave it std. size.
