I own a mercury 200 HP BlackMax and have some troubles when running.
It doesn?t runs more than 3.200 RPM
I supose it?s an Oil Control Module failure that limits RPM.?? because the oil alarm (at ignition) doesn?t sounds.
How can I solve this problem if possible, before going to Official Service, and end of my holidays?
tks

The alarm not working is a problem that should be addressed, but probably not your rpm problem. Did this start all of a sudden? Have you changed anything on the boat or engine lately?

It started at same time.
I asked Mercury?s service, and told me that if the Oil Control Module failures, it limitates RPM so to preserve engine.
A friend told me to disconnect the OCM and that would release the RPM limited problem (at least for a few days)
Is that correct? The failure of the Module limitates the RPM??

I don't know the year of your motor, but mine won't limit. If it is being limited why would you risk bypassing it? Do you really want to blow it up not knowing if there's an actual problem? Do you have a mercury manual to consult for testing?

I just want to solve the problem for the next few days.
After my holydays I would reach the Off. Service to repair the Oil Control Module system and see what could caused the failure.
He starts and runs great, and I won?t "by pass" a system that is OK for me and Mercury had developed for many years for our safety.

I just went through the exact same problem. Mine would stop at 3400RPM like it had a governor on it.. wouldn't go past 3400 at all.

Mine turned out to be a few problems:

1. Stator windings were bad
2. Frayed wiring on Idle Control Module (I removed the module completely as it is unneeded)
3. After installing the new stator, I found that the switch boxes were bad as well. I replaced them and all was well with the motor.

CDI Electronics has an excellent troubleshooting guide, not to mention outstanding customer service. You can download the guide you need Here

In order to troubleshoot ignition systems you're going to need a minimum of a volt/ohm meter and a DVA adapter for your meter. You can build or buy a DVA Adapter that will allow you to read DVA (Peak Voltage) on your standard volt meter.

I'm really amazed at all this advice being offered, and the engine has not been identified, other than it's a big black V.
