Howdy Folks.

Just bought a 1979 20 hp Merc. and a 14' Smokercraft. Bought a gasket kit for the carb., replaced all fuel lines, cleaned the fittings and bought a new gas tank. The thing came right to life - runs great from idle to wide open. Only problem is it occasionally snuffs out while trolling. It starts back up on the first pull, no problem. Sometimes it will happen once per hour. Then, it will happen four times in fifteen minutes. Ran about three gallons of Sea-foam seasoned gas through it this weekend with no apparent change.

Is this a lean sneeze issue? I set the mixture screw at 1.5 turns. Then I went out on the lake and with the motor in forward gear I turned the mixture screw all the way in and then 3 or 4 turns out and there was no apparent change. Shouldn't there have been a change in rpms or the smoothness of the motor? Perhaps there is some residual obstruction in the passages of the carburetor?

I'm in the mountains, about a mile above sea level.

I do not know what the cylinder compression is.

Thanks
