Greetings all. I tried the search feature but couldn't pinpoint my situation.

This is a great running motor but yesterday something happened. Had the family on the river, we packed up from the gravel bar and started the run to the ramp. I hit a submerged stump/limb leftover from the flood a few weeks ago. Nothin new for me, have replaced a few props and lower units over the years. Running rivers around here, it's not a matter of if you will hit an underwater hazard, but when. The motor kicked up like it does when it tags something.

I idled down and shut the motor off. Well, the motor wouldn't start after this happened. Picture me, wife, and two sons floating into a strainer with no power. Not one to get excited I picked up a paddle and negotiated the fallen tree. Then turned back to the motor. Bulb wouldn't hold pressure. Huh, I think. Removed line from motor, bulb builds pressure. Attach line back to motor and can hear wooshing sound as I squeeze the bulb. I'm no mechanic, but I can skirt my way through most mechanical issues by troubleshooting and methodically approaching solutions.

At this point I believe something is wrong with the fuel system. Looked down to make sure the kill switch wasn't activated. It wasn't. Pop the lid and can hear the wooshing sound (while squeezing the bulb) coming from the carb. So, I think the stump hit jarred something and my carb isn't functioning properly.

Anyway, before I go reading up on carb rebuilds I figured I would ask the experts here and see if I am missing something. The hit wasn't hard enough to nick the lower unit, or do any real prop damage. It's been 2 years since the carb was rebuilt, I did not like the service provided by the marina. I have cleaned 2 stroke carbs on small engines but never of the marine variety.

Any thoughts?

if you can look thrugh the carbs and when you prime the bulb it floods real bad you know the carb. needle isn't seating i would take the carb bowl off and see if your needle got unseated.
