Hello...I'm very new to boating as you soon will see....I live in the azores and I bought and restored an old wooden fishing boat that came with an older inboard motor and 1998 mercury 8hp outboard....the inboard works fine but I think I messed up the outboard...The previous owner told me the gas/oil mixture was 100/1...so I went with that......after about 15 minutes at full throttle it just bogged down and shut off....after that I never had a problem starting it up but it never sounded right after the initial shut down..it would make putting noises alot and shut down off and on...so we came back to land and after some reasearch I learned I needed a 50/1 ratio....The next day I went out again with the new gas and the proper ratio....It started up at first pull and ran quite well.....except for the fact that if I ran it at full throttle it would start to want to make the putting sound again and I just backed off of the throttle and it seem to run pretty good.......Any advice? Is the motor totally messed? Is it something that will fix itself out now that I have the proper mixture?..Is there anything I can do to check it out?..I am no mechanic........Ty for any and all help you can provide....Be well...

Do a compression test, then a carb cleaning and hope there's no damage.
