Do I need to place a sealant on the water pump gasket before installing it? I have a 1969 6 hp motor.
Thanks,
David

Sure, why not....when you install the housing for the pump, spin it down counter clockwise....that way , the vanes will be pointing the right direction.

Put some 2-4-c on the inside of the housing and yeah i do believe there is something you apply to the gasket before placing it but i can't recall it's name on the top of my head

1. grease not necessary, dish soap can be used to make impeller go into housing easier.
2. gasket cement (brush on stuff) is OK to use on housing to wear plate gasket.

I use the perm a tex aviation gasket cement...stays pliable....thin is all....

And dish soap works well ..i use to mount tires on my ATV rims..they slide right on....
