Ok my turn to ask for some help!

Im new to PWCS, so have a couple questions for you more knowledgeable folks.

I just aquired a 1988 Seadoo (BRP) and a 1993 Yamaha 650

Question #1: The Seadoo is missing the battery, is this a 12 volt or 6 volt? Previous owner removed solenoid thinking that was the problem but tested fine, did no reinstall. Any wiring diagrams for this to reinstall correctly? How do you test/recharge a 6 volt battery?

Question #2: Im surpirsed that the Yammy is premix. Did they always do this? The BRP is older yet uses automix so you do not need to premix the fuel/oil.

Question #3: What cc is the Seadoo, I can see the Yammy is 650. It looks like a mid 500s? Funny because the previous owners said the Seadoo was much quicker?

I plan on going over the following things. Will check compression first, and check for spark on all leads. WIll drain the old fuel and get some fresh stuff in there before continuing. Any maintainance stuff that needs to be done on these like filters, gear oil, etc...?

Appreciate all help

Chris

Im charging the battery for the camera so I can upload some pics, will be up shortly.

The Yammy is originally pre mixed I think, as per the sticker on it, and the lack of any type of oil resevoir?

The Seadoo has an oil resevoir to fill.

The Yammy has a 16CL-B battery in it, which I was told to use in the Seadoo as well.

That is a 12Volt? I want to be sure before putting my charger on it and ruining it.

All the PWC's are 12v. Chances are good the Yam was direct oil injection from the factory and was converted to premix by a previous owner. They were using oil injection for many, many years before. When converting, there is a kit that blocks off the oil injection port and gives you a sticker to indicate that it's premix. The oil container is simply removed then.

You have a 580 cc Sea Doo--the one with the yellow colored engine. They were bullet proof. I still have my original 1990 Sea Doo like yours. And the only repair was to put in one starter. After all these years, I need to replace the wear ring around the impeller, as it is accelerating just a little slow.

The Sea Doo of this era was ahead of its time. They rode and handled great. Unfortunately, everyone got into a horsepower race, and the PWC's have gotten longer, heavier and more expensive.

I am now running a 2010 Waverunner VX Cruiser--the best selling PWC on the market. At 54 mph, it runs as fast as I need to go. It's never seen the shop, and the 4 stroke motor just runs great. There are faster PWC's on the market, but they don't get 10 mpg.

Put a 16 year old kid on a 250 hp 9' PWC, and there's a good chance he may get hurt. Kids (and many adults) don't have the maturity to handle a 68 mph rocket that accelerates from 0 to 30 mph in less than 2 seconds.

Re: 2 New PWCS

The previous owner disconnected the wiring for the solenoid, now Im left trying to figure it out.

Regarding the small gauge wire, there are 2 red with inline fuses, 1 yellow with red stripe and a brown.

Any ideas how to wire this?

Regards
