2 in 1 question; taking water from transon and drain plug

Ok guys i am very new but handy, i took the Fam on Monday for a picnic at the lake and found water coming in from the transom bracket; i have read several threads and looks like the bellows are the problem. do i need to check other areas as well like (your input here is welcome)?
Our boat 1989 Bayliner Capri with a 5.0L OMC Cobra (Ford)

While looking under the drive i noticed a broken screw on the drain plug, (this is other question-drain plug is not the cause of leak), where can i get a new drain plug with a larger flange- the one i have the screws are too close to the opening in the haul and my believe is if i turn it around and drill new holes i will weaken the orifice and haul.

one more thing, the estimates i have seen for the bellows replaced are around $750, is this real or should i get my neighbors help and tackle the job myself using my seloc book.

You haul trash to the dump, your boat has a hull.
Ok, now thats off my list.
Your transom plug probably has three screws that secure the flange, rather than make three new holes you can simply plug the existing holes with dowel dipped in two part 5 min. epoxy, devcon brand is good, you can drill the 3 holes to accept whatever size dowell you use, you can even use about 4 or 5 toothpicks epoxy and push them into the hole, let cure, trim, and re-drill.
A transom seal kit that includes bellows, seals, and gaskets, isn't hard to install, plus you should learn how it's done.

thanks for the reply and correction and sorry it took me so long to keep up with the topic.
Today i took the drive unit out and tomorrow will take out the pivot housing; all looks OK so far.

My question of the day is about the shift cable seal, it looks like it is behind the Gimbal housing; Am i going to be able to replace the seal without moving engine away? can it be done by just pulling cable through?

Yes OMC uses a tube that comes up above the water line.

Well, drive and engine are out. While the engine is out i am thinking on replacing the Log style exhaust manifolds with an exhaust kit from basic Power, my starboard manifold is leaking- (any input on the replacement kits will be helpful).
Also will rebuild carburetor, already found the kit from Holley and will go ahead and service lower drive seals since is out.

Please if there are other suggestions on what to do or not, please let me know

Suggestion to check/tighten Transom Mount bolts, also check on the condition of the exhaust tube as they have been known to corrode and leak water into the boat. Now is also a good time to replace the Gimbal Bearing and Inner Seal if you have one, Water Feed Hose. Good Luck.
