2.3L OMC Carb Questions?

Hello All - I got back from an unsuccessful trip to the lake engine would start and idle smoothly but when I put it in gear and throttled up there was no power and to me it seems like a lack of fuel. Note this carburetor was probably the dirtiest one I have ever seen and shame on the previous owner for telling me it ran last year! I call his bluff on that one. Any how I cleaned out what I could on the carb without taking too much of it apart. But one area I didn't touch was the pump assembly and power valve and piston. When the boat goes in gear and the throttle opens up I am assuming this is when the power vale kicks in and the pump assembly provides more fuel? am I correct to assume this? Have a look at the picture and let me know what you all think. I appreciate any help. Thanks,

That carburetor needs a complete disassemble, cleaning and rebuild

Rebuild kits are readily available online. Check Mike's carburetor parts

Hopefully you a “spin on” style of fuel/water separator. If you have access to the top of the tank try draining it and remove the crud.
Sierra Marine has a filter kit that comes with a USCG approved filter kit with a clear bottom bowl that is drainable. You should be able to locate this kit at most marine supply stores.
Sierra # 18-7932-1 Rancor also has the same style kit.

Agreed that thing is filthy & had to come totally apart. That’s an old school Rochester 2GV style carb. Not hard to rebuild. Dis-assemble soak in carb cleaner blast out passages with compressed air, replace all gaskets needle & seat. Make sure float is not heavy with fuel. Set up according to instructions. Just take your time & have a nice clean organized work space. And yes add the canister style fuel filter if you don’t have one yet. Mines clean every time I’ve checked….change it yearly….that little inlet filter won’t work in a boat.

I used white vinegar on mine and searched ebay for everything that doesn't come in a rebuild kit.
I used brake cleaner initially but let is soak till I saw it bubbling then used a toothbrush, rinsed and repeated.

get a bucket of berrymans carb cleaner. do not use simple green, vinegar, etc.

that carb has ethanol turning back into corn, water, varnish, and other crud in it.

each passage will need to have a piece of monofilament run thru it to verify it is clean
