put boat in yesterday at the marina, went to slip to get the gang, idles smooth but got onto river and gave it some gas little bog, ran down stream for 3 miles, way to windy the white cap were going across river not with the river, turned around and gunned it took forever to get on plane and only hit 30mph on my speedo. I'm hoping it was just leftover gas from last season, thought i used stabil but not sure. It has a 42 gallon tank and it took 20 to 27 gallons to fill, so ratio of good gas to bad gas is 2/1, going to try the enzyme treatment, used before and seemed to help. then next fill up all should be fine. what do you think??

I had this just recently. Had put one of the plug leads on the wrong plug by mistake when I fogged the cylinders. Ran fine on idle when running up, only showed a problem when trying to put power on under load.
Maybe worth a check..??

Do you use ethanol fuel (regular gas station) or the 100% gasoline fuel (pump at the marina)? If ethanol fuel was left in all winter I'm sure its gone bad by now (assuming you forgot stabil..), has a shelf life for 3 months.

Topping off with fresh should have helped though. You may have to have it scanned for codes.

Hi.
about the spark plug gap. Good idea to remember that this engine absolutely needs the iridium plugs and they don’t get gapped.
but more crucial...without doubt, you are seeing what 99% of mpi owners do after winter or storage...the infamous trademark mpi Diz cap issue.

Ngk 5599 usually. Just check though. Not cheap. But no doubt they are the right plugs. Don’t settle for platinum ones.

I had a 1990 yamaha 200 that sat for 12 years. Fresh plugs and fresh gas and it ran fine for a few weeks but then ran sluggish. I then ran a separate 3 gal spare fuel tank to a y valve for emergency fuel. I ran 1 can of sea foam with 1 gal of fuel. I let it run for 5 min then sit for 5 min so the sea foam could sit in the Jets to clean them. Repeat that 3 times but run the throttle (in neutral of course) up and down so it cleans all the ports. The third time it'll spit, smoke and sputter as the old varnish spits out. Then it'll run great.

update. replaced spark plugs, i guess it's been longer than I thought when I changed them last, they were ac delco's 41-993 with the fine tip, not so fine tip, they were burnt wider than a .045 gap, more like a .095 gap. just ordered new cap and rotor just to make sure thing are up-to-date!!! WAY TOO LONG SINCE LAST TUNE-UP! haha!
