I seem to be having a problem with throttle and power with my boat. Yesterday I was on the lake and the boat was cruising along when I crossed a wake and immediately seemed to loose power. The throttle was in the same place but the engine seemed to bog down. After that when I tried to move the throttle to resume the speed the engine would not respond and seemed to be stuck in the powerless state. Once I hobbled back to the dock, I checked the timing and it was right on.
So my question is what in the world would cause the engine to start acting up when I landed hard over a wake?

Thanks in advance

Re: 1999 Searay Mercruiser - throttle issue

Hello,
I have had the same problem with my boat and it could be either fuel or electrical. The electrical is easy check all your plug wires for security and the wires connected to the distributor. Check that your wires on the battery posts are secure. Those are the easy electrical things. Now on the fuel side. Have you checked or do you have a fuel water seperating filter? This may need to be changed. The fuel filter in the fuel pump may need to be changed. This happened to me and the screen at the caburator was clogged. All that required was removing it cleaning with carb cleaner and reinstalling. Anyway, I am no expert like some of these guys but I have been learning by doing. You may want to post exactly what engine you have too.
