Hi,
After I reviewed few posts, my guess is that my Mercury outboard might fuse problem for which it is not starting. A little background below.

I checked the motor doesn't have any spark. When I switch it ON, it tries to crank (like making cha cha cha..) but not start. Can fuse problem do it? I checked kill switch--which is ok.

A mechanic came and said he couldn't find resistance in pulser coil, so advised me to buy the coil first. I did and it is coming, but my mind says it is not the pulser coil--it could be simpler I ran it just 5 days back without any issue and it is a fairly low running motor (only 140 hours).

Any idea? I saw Gerry helping very valuable tips to people. Any Idea Gerry?

Cha cha cha is a dance - not a mechanical or electrical condition. Sorry -- couldn't resist that. With the cover off the engine you should be able to tell what or where the "cha cha" is coming from. For lack of a better term, I would use the word "chatter" and I suspect you have a weak battery that is causing the starter solenoid to try, but not engage fully. No -- do not replace the solenoid. Verify that you have a good battery by charging it, then making sure both battery cables are clean and tight. By that I mean disconnect both ends (at the battery and the engine). Make them shiny clean and then reinstall tightly. If the cha cha is still there, Remove the battery and head to you local auto store and have it load tested. As I said, charge it first. Obviously a dead or deeply discharged battery will test bad.

Well, I thought I found the problem and fixed it. But it is not. After a day, when I fixed the loose connection (buying a wire with 20amp fuse in it and soldering it to the main wire) I couldn't start my motor. I also tried to connect it directly, still didn't work. So I guess the previous start was coincidental. Not sure where the problem is. A mechanic came and told me that I might have pulser coil problem as he didn't find the resistance there. But not sure how it started at least once.

Any advice?
