Ran into an issue with the boat yesterday.Took the kids fishing and the boat ran perfect. When it was time to head in I cranked the engine(never starts the first turn of the key).Motor turned over good just didn't start right up.After cranking the motor a few times ,NOTHING(wouldn't turn over!).Checked fuses and couldn't find any blown. Switched the cables to my trolling battery thinking it was the battery, still nothing. Finally started it by crossing the + and - on the motor with some pliers and it fired right up. Got us back in but noticed I have no tilt now on the throttle control nor up front(still works on the switch on the engine).????? Also noticed the tach is stuck at @5000. When I got it on the trailor the key turned it off. Could it be the key switch and would that affect the tilt?

I would first check all the conections from the battery to motor and key switch. Clean every one real good and use diaelectric grease on them. The grease can be bought at most all Automitive store. When you stated that you jumped the + & - on the motor just where did you do this at? If it was at the starter solinoid, and just between its large terms with the key on, then testing of the key switch and solinoid are needed to find out if they are good.

That is where I crossed it over at. I turned the key switch to the on position before I did this. When I put the boat back on the trailer the key switch did turn it off(I was kinda curious if it would or not LOL).

OK, now you will need a multymeter set to DC volts or a test light to see if the selinoid is getting voltage from the switch when turned to the start position. You can disconect the large wire to the starter for safty and place the test light, or meter, on the small selinoid post with the yellow wire on it and the other to ground on the block. Turnning the key switch to the start pos. should light the light or meter show 12+ on the meter, moving the switch back to just the on pos. and the light should go out or meter show nothing . If it test good this way the selinoid is bad and the switch is good. if no light or voltage the switch is bad or the wireing to the switch is bad. There is a inline fuse in the small red wire from the selinoid to the key switch that could be blown. Have you checked it yet?

Couldn't find a fuse in line. I do have a test light and I will check it tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.

After searching some more on the engine I found an in line fuse that was blown(drivers side, opposite of the starter). It was enclosed in a waterproof housing. All I had was 15 amp fuse in my garage(It was a 20 amp that had blown). It fired right up and my tilt works again.
