1999 Johnson 50 hp Outboard Motor: Alarm/Buzzer Malfunction

Hey, trying to help out a buddy who doesn't do computers.

He's working on an outboard boat motor today and is stuck.

Needs: 1998 - 2000 Johnson 50 hp Wire Harness Diagram.

He states the issue is every time he turns the key on, an alarm/buzzer sounds and will not stop. That is the reason for wanting a wiring diagram.

What wires are causing the issue.-What colours ? --What happened to cause problems with wires / connections.

Sounds like he's looking for the engine side wiring diagram.
Pretty hard to find (older stuff is around)you may get lucky and have someone scan one for you.

The motor wiring diagrams are in the OEM factory service manuals.

Relax no times wasted, just drinking tea on a sunday here.
Maybe you could find out why he wants it?
Theres not that many wires in an outboard so its pretty easy to explain any particular wiring connection he wants

Dear Fed,

Thank you for your time and effort. That was very kind of you. He just contacted me a few minutes ago and stated that is the type of diagram he is looking for. Now that I "pulled teeth", I was able to gather more info from him.

The boat is another neighbor's. He wasn't sure of the year, but thinks he saw 1999 somewhere on it. So he broadened it to 1998-2000. He also stated that the problem was that every time he turns the key on, an alarm/buzzer goes off and will not stop. That is the reason for wanting a wiring diagram. The other info is the same: It is a Johnson 50 hp, 2 cycle.

No worries, what we really need is a model number to find the right circuit diagram.

Alarms usually activate by grounding of the tan wire.

Hey Fed,

Just spoke with him and relayed your message. He said the model number is worn off the sticker and he only has the serial number.

He asks if there is anywhere else to find the model number, once the sticker is destroyed?

See if there's a number on the freeze plug on the top of the block I think the model can be determined from that.
