Hi all,

My power tilt relay has corroded to near dust (see picture). The price of a new one has me at least wondering if it is possible to wire two typical 5 pin relays rather than spending the $450 the dealer wants. I have attached a picture of the wiring diagram from the manual as well.

Thanks in advance!

Never seen one that bad. Have you tried sourcing a used one? Wiring up a pair of relays would work (eventually) but swapping in a used one would be a LOT simpler than going through all that.

The ebay search I did:
honda power tilt relay #38550-zw5-003

From the results of that search, an ebay dealer I've bought from on several occasions:

Thanks for your prompt response ahicks. I do like the thought of simply just plugging in an oem relay, but I am slightly impatient to wait on shipping. I also like the thought of being able to replace with generic relays in the future simply because of how easy they are to get and you can buy ten for the price of the one oem.

I don’t mind taking my time and doing it right and hopefully learning some more about relays and wiring. If it is possible do you think you could give me some pointers of what I’m looking at in the wiring diagram as far as what pin does what? I have attached a picture of the full wiring diagram for reference.

Thanks!

Everyone to their own, but I prefer "creative" fixes only as a last resort. I can almost guarantee that used relay could be in your hands before you have the "quick fix" figured out. I could figure it out given the time, but for 80 bucks? Not worth it in my book.

Have you had time to check out the rest of the electrical system yet? Have you tested the lift motor for instance?

Will you need another starter?

With a motor that's gone down in salt water, I'd be holding my breath until all of the electrical was checked out.

Then there's the carbs. Have the carbs been looked at? Are they full of salt water?
