Boat hasn’t been out in about two years. Filled gas tank with fresh fuel mix. Cleaned the carb (it had funky fuel residue everywhere) and spark plugs. The needle has less than 5 hours on it. Spark plugs were replaced last year. Also replaced the fuel line. Disconnected the fuel line from the carb and hit the starter and fuel is shooting out (into a bottle) to test pump. Put it all back together and won’t start. Hit the carb with a little fluid, motor turns fine, motor starts, and then dies. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you take the carb off, take it apart, clean it real good, set the float, etc? What setting did you use for the needle? Since it will start momentarily by adding fluid down the throat it seems like the carb is restricted. Any fuel that was in the tank before topping off was definitely bad after 2 years....that could be a problem too. Wouldn't hurt to check compression and spark while you're at it.

I pulled the carb completely apart and cleaned all the debris out of the ports. I have good compression and spark. I am wonder if not the needle port but the one in the center could still have debris I can’t see?

Also all fuel is brand new. Emptied the gas can and started over and using Lucas oil 2 stroke oil.

yes, just pulled the carb again and the bulb was full. I also cleaned out the pin in the center of the carb. Hoping that is the probably. I used a sewing needle to get into the hole and carb cleaner. I can blow on all ports of the carb and get airflow.

Check float height and be sure the needle and needle seat is spotless. I used a qtip in a drill with a little polishing compound for the brass seat. Cleaned and polish up nicely.

We am almost thinking I am going to need to punch out the main nozzle. Seems to get fuel in the bowl fine. Just won’t get it in to the combustion chamber. I am assuming to punch that out from the top?

Be careful trying to remove that main nozzle. If you bugger it up you might have to get a new carb. What is your idle mixture screw set at? And do you have a factory manual?

Bench-test this theory, have the bowl filled with fuel & pressurize the fuel system to see if it jetting out inside the throat of the carb
You will have to remove the (and/or) float-needle to do perform this test

I have an aftermarket manual but it doesn’t specify. I have fuel all the way to the float. Needle is new and not a speck of debris in the needle seat. Does the main nozzle just tap down top to bottom. Boat supply has the nozzles if I need to replace just not sure I am doing it correctly.

This is a pic of the main nozzle part#F016133....it's threaded so it screws out. It may be corroded in there pretty good....

I reamed out the nozzle and then checked the float height. I will be honest, I realized I put the float on upside down, probably 2-3 times. A few starts later carb is sparkling clean and she is purring like a kitten.I appreciate all the help. Thank you.
