This weekend when flushing my engine I noticed water a small bit of water spraying out between the driveshaft housing and the gearcase, and today I noticed a small amount of oil that has seeped out of this of the same place (See Photo). I have never noticed this before, everything runs perfect but I would like to drop the gearcase so I can see whats wrong. I refered to the service manual and they want me to remove the propeller and all attaching hardware. Is this nessesary? I have never removed the gearcase before so if I remove the 4 bolts will it simply drop down?

Thanks
Rob

It's probably just unburned fuel/oil running down the inside of the motor leg. The engine exhausts through the leg and unburned fuel/oil collects against the inside. When the engine is pulled out of the water, the water that rides there drains quickly. The petroleum residue can magically appear a day or two later. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

Will not hurt to check if all lower LU bolts are tight....re tight if needed.

Thanks for the reply Sea Rider, just got back in town and I checked the bolts and they are tight. I bought this boat last December and started working on it in May of this year and as you can imagine with a gas operated anything that has sat for years I have spent more time working on it than enjoying it. The motor runs perfectly now only I just noticed water spraying out between the driveshaft housing and the gearcase (please see photo). I dont know if it is mormal for this motor 1998 8hp Tohatsu (I hope it is) because I will be out on the lake this weekend instead of working on it. I apreciate any help you or anyone els can give me on this.

That's a drain to let the water out to prevent freezing issues. No problem.

Thanks Paul, Obviously I'm new to this I just could not find anything in the owners manual or the service manual that talked about it. You have made my day and weekend, although I'm almost sad that I have nothing else to fix, repair, or replace; everything is perfect now.
