1998 Regal 1700 LSR

I bought a 1998 regal 1700 lsr a while back, could never get it to run properly. ended up checking the full engine out and one piston was cracked and the block was clogged with clay so there went that. it was the omc 3.0. I found a possible 305/5.0 drive and all. a donor boat. would it be possible to swap out. would the engine fit?
