I was having problems last summer with my motor smoking too much and seemed to be burning too much oil. I just took it out of winter storage yesterday. It's running rough with too much smoke. I cleaned the spark plugs.

Is it possible the oil pump is pumping out too much?

Do I need a carb job?

Does anybody know a good OMC mechanic in Houston?

I'm taking it to the mechanic this week and would like to get some feedback.

Thanks,

Whitey

Go through the fuel side. Any air leak in the fuel delivery will make the fuel/oil pump cycle more as it pumps air instead of fuel. This will make it pump too much oil as the pump cycles through the air in the fuel side. Also, be sure to pump up the fuel side prior to the first start of the day.

This board is great! The specifics on the motor are:

1998 Johnson 150 HP Oceanrunner

Somebody on the Texas Fishing Forum board told me that I may need to replace the VRO (very risky option) with an OMS?
