1998 force 90hp - starting / throttle

for cold start i have to depress button on throttle hub to disengage drive so that i can throttle up and choke motor. lately, i have had an intermittent problem where the motor will not turn over when throttle is engaged. I have resorted to removing motor cover and manually holding the throttle while someone else turns over the motor. I am guessing there is a switch of some kind in the throttle assembly that is the culprit. What should I be looking for?

Loose wires on the kill switch.

you mean the kill switch at bottom of throttle assembly? So i simply disconnect the wires? That easy, eh? Okay, will try.

Thanks,

I presume from what you are suggesting is that this switch is different than the one in the throttle lever hub, yes? Does connecting the wires from the kill switch fully bypass the throttle switch? If so, then this appears to be the easiest fix.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Now i get what you were saying. Disconnected then reconnected the wires but did not help. I then replaced the neutral switch altogether which resides behind the throttle hub. A B*t*h to get to but ended up being the culprit. 2 hours + $5 later and i am now good to go.

That was going to be my next suggestion, after making sure the wiring was in order.

Yes, it is tough to get at.

Glad you got it figured out.
