help guys if you can.
was running my 26 world cat the other day when a warning buzzer went off on one engine.
I slowed to a stop and shut the motor down? all looked ok and it started up fine..ran ok to about 8 miles back in and never went off again?
ran her yesterday and same thing happened.ran for about 3 miles at no wake speed then say 2 miles at 4000rpm and buzzer came on again? it sounds for about 10 seconds..solid then stops, about 20 seconds later the check engine light goes out?
oil looks good? motor never makes any funny sound and no loss of rpm.
after this happened I just decided to run through the next one and keep my fingers crossed.I did and nothing went wrong..it just went away only to come back on 15 minutes later.
I ran about 30 miles and other than the buzzer and check engine light it ran fine.
what could this mean?
1998 evinrude ocean pro/ficht 150
thanks, doug

Welcome to the forum!

A continous horn sound is an over heat warning. Since its stoping and starting eracticly I would suspect malfunction of sensor or T..stat is malfunctioning.

You can use melt stick on heads. Heads should not exced 175* nor run below 125*

You can find melt sticks at auto parts store. If the 175 does not melt then I would change sensor on that bank. If it does melt I would change T..Stat.

I wouldnt try to gut it out. You may be buying a rebuild.

Good Luck!

Re: 1998 ficht 150 warning buzzer help!

Doug,
I have a 98 Johnson 115 Ficht. The same thing happened to me. Now I can tell you what I found out in my case. This , of course may or may not be your problem. My computer was giving a faulty code which was that the fuel sensor was detecting water in the fuel. This is info that I recieved from the dealership where I purchased my boat. They plugged into the computer on the motor to get the code. After determining that there was no presence of water in the fuel and checking the sensor, they tried to clear the code. They could not clear the code. They called the manufacturer and was instructed to send in the computer to get the code cleared, or computer repaired (about $700.00). So in my case the computer is supplying a faulty code, making the warning buzzer come on and go off intermittently.
Now what I did learn about the buzzer/warning setup on the ficht's is that if it is something major "no oil", "no water" etc, the engine will go into "SLOW" mode which will not let you run over 1000 RPM. Where as in my case the fault "water in the fuel" I was able to run normally other than the buzzer sounding. OOOHHH and something else to know. If it is a warning that can be serviced later, the buzzer will sound for 10 seconds and then go off. However the light will stay lit. Now since my problem was intermittent the computer/sensor would reset and later go off again. If the warning needs immediate attention (ex: no oil)the motor will go into the "slow" mode and the buzzer will be constant. Found that out first hand.
With all that said, I would recommend that you take it to someone that can tell you what fault is being generated, then you can figure out if it's a bad sensor or actual problem.

Re: 1998 ficht 150 warning buzzer help!

I hope someone gets this as the thread is so old but I can't seem to figure out how to start a new thread!

I have a 1998 150 Johnson FICHT and I am getting a warning horn that lasts for 30 seconds upon start up but then goes away. Motor runs fine, no problems at all. A number of years ago I was told the computer indicated there was water in the fuel, however, upon checking, that was not the case.

I've been putting up with it for years, no problems with the motor at all. now, I'm wanting to sell the boat but know that with the horn it will be hard to get what the boat/motor combo is worth. Any suggestions?

I appreciate it!
