1998 evinrude 225 ocean pro, no spark! Help!

What type/brand of stator did you get? I bought a new one for mine on ebay from Caltric, the two large yellow wires that come out of the back side that go to the rectifier came without a connector, just push on spade style connectors, does it matter which one goes on which side in connector from rectifier? I'm having no spark issues as well. 1995 200hp

Thank you! So if I check those yellow wires with my volt meter while cranking the engine, I should get voltage?
yes you should see AC volts on your VOM...some engine even have 3 yellows and use a 3 phase diode rectifier .

Do I need a dva adapter to get a voltage reading? I was reading a little about one, but not sure if I actually need one??

DVA is essentially a AC to DC converter to flatten out high peaks of AC the average out the DC equivalent voltage. you can buy a meter , a meter adapter module or build your own if you look them up on google. Doing just an AC reading will tell you if the stator is producing AC or just hook it up to the rectifier's AC inputs and if all is good your rectifier will charge the battery.

look on the battery posts for a voltage increase as RPMs go up.

DVA is essentially a AC to DC converter to flatten out high peaks of AC the average out the DC equivalent voltage. you can buy a meter , a meter adapter module or build your own if you look them up on google. Doing just an AC reading will tell you if the stator is producing AC or just hook it up to the rectifier's AC inputs and if all is good your rectifier will charge the battery.

So if I hook my meter leads( without an adapter) to the yellow stator wires and crank the engine, how much voltage should I see? Will I see a voltage increase at the battery posts at cranking speed, or when engine is running (which of course it's not right now because I have no spark)?

I do not have specs maybe Racerone has them. I would not look to deep into this .....just try it and check for a rise in voltage on the battery (from resting to charging during higher rpms ).

In theory if the battery is to be charged at higher rpms it should rise " x" volts. the DC being rectified AC peaks .

I suspect you should at least see a voltage level say...30 volts AC on a DVA reading possibly 20 on pure AC on yellows on a regular VOM meter . VOM provide what is call RMS volts readings which does not reflect the full peak values a DVA adapter will provide since it job is to rectifythe full AC volt peaks and " pile them up" in a capacitor and to be represented in DC formaT/ values.

The engine AC rectifier/regulator's function will apply the necessary volts to the battery.

hard to say without drawings and all DVA volts looks high on the above chart dingbat ^provided for the engine size/year .. way above what I expected...

. so they coud be used to charge up some capacitors that would discharge into coils using CDI process. ... The CDI would need trigger pulses to fire the coils so they may be missing

So the yellow wires go to the rectifier for charging the battery? The rectifier has nothing to do with spark? Which means I need to concentrate on either the timer base or the power pack to figure out why I have no spark.

Sorry this is long winded, but my starter crapped out, finally got a new one yesterday, so I know it's cranking fine. But still no spark, the voltage at battery while cranking goes from 12.8 to 11.6 ish. The stator is brand new from a company called Caltric on ebay. I ordered a used timer base off ebay, the picture was of a blue aftermarket timer base, I assumed that meant it was quite a bit newer, they sent me one that looked identical to my original, I contacted them, they sent a replacement, and it was another original looking part, errrrgh. I've tried both of them, but still no spark. I bought a new power pack 2 years ago( winter 2023) from jetunit, and new coils trying to be proactive in the off season maintenance wise, last spring I couldn't get it to fire up, I put the old power pack and coils back on and got it running, but started having issues last season. I've swapped the new and old power packs a couple times, along with the timer bases. I can't believe both packs and 3 timer bases could all be bad??. I tried disconnecting the shift switch, I tried disconnecting the main engine harness, but still no spark. I need to figure out the dva thing and start the troubleshooting all over I guess. It's so frustrating.
