Got caught in a rain (HARD RAIN) storm last Sunday and my dash got soaked. During the rain (and thunder and lightning) my engine overheated (alarm lights and sounder) and I needed a tow the last 100 yards. I'm boating in Lake St. Clair out of Ontario and it's very shallow and weedy, hence over-heating.
1/2 hour later the sun came out and it was nice enough that I had to start the boat up and make sure we still had life. The boat started fine and sounded good (been out 3 time since and runs fine) but I noticed my tach was dead.
Removed tach, cleaned connections, spun the pulse dial on back from it's position of 6 a few times to try to clean any contacts there and still nothing.
The tach has a purple and black wire to the 2 screw terminals and I'm guessing a 8 or 10 pin rectangular plug the plugs into the back from the wiring harness. Any Suggestions or Help? 1998 90HP Evinrude 2 stroke. ALSO >>
I read in other posts that my voltage gauge is always running hi 18+ volts (until I tilt the motor up or down) but when I meter my battery the charging voltage is fine around 13.8 volts DC. Didn't know if the two (tach & Voltage gauge) had something in common that may identify a problem.
Thanks for any feedback! - Wink!
