Today's installment:

Started first thing this morning on 2nd crank=cold start issue FIXED!!:D

Ran for 15 minutes and went back to dock. Idle too high and needed to adjust mix. Shut off to dock and pull cover. Went to start and made a funny sound then...grinding sound. noticed starter spinning but not gear??? To answer the earlier question where the metal shavings are coming from? From the starter assemble that is now in two pieces. It was evidently grinding under the bottom of the flywheel. While removing starter found the starter bracket not attached and the nut that usually holds the starter cable went missing. I have no idea where it has been getting power from. So much for professionally maintained.

Ok repaired the starter and motor starts on second crank almost every time. Results as follows:

Hard to start- repaired by rebuilding fuel pump and carbs. Also repaired a short on the fuel enrichment valve caused by rubbing on the block. On the carb, cleaning the idle tube WELL and replacing needle stopped fuel leaking and increased idle and smoothed running. One lesson here. If you push in the choke, the volt meter should move a little. if it moves directly to "zero" it does not work properly.

Stalling- Carb and fuel pump rebuild repaired this issue.

Still has a miss and now high idle. I will start another post on these and I continue on my journey.
