Looking at a completely rebuilt 1998 johnson ocean pro 200. Looks brand new. Seller is asking 4,500. Seems really high even rebuilt. Nada list avg retail at 1,300. Any opinions on this motor preferably from owners.

If it runs out good (full sea trial at all RPM ranges) and has good compression, gearcase passes pressure test, I would think 3K-3500 would be about top dollar. nada is not a good guide on outboards.

I have a '98 150HPV6. It is a very good motor IMHO. Lots of low end power. I am disappointed in top speed however.

Yes Sparkie it is...It has such good acceleration, no matter how much weight is in the boat, but top end is disappointing.

Re: 1998 200hp ocean pro

Chris, I am currently attempting to remedy that exact problem with my mid 90s 60 degree 150. You should watch my post on the subject, I am waiting on some gel seal II to arrive so I can re-seal the crank case. this is the second 60 degree 150 that I have owned, the other one had same problem. I strongly suspect a problem with the crank case pressure, I have torn the motor down and looked for cracks, could find none.
