I have rebuilt the lower unit on my 115 1998 Johnson and noticed after we got it back together that there was a good bit of play after I engaged the foreward gear. Is there a limit on how much play is tolerable.

If you are refering to the rotational lash in the prop ,it is typical to have around 1/5 to 1/4 turn of rotational lash when in forward gear.

OK thanks thats what I was wondering. We got it back together and noticed the lash. The only reason I was worried was because on other outboard I had looked at the playwasn't that severe.

I have a 98 115 OMC and just checked it, it has about a 1/4 lash in forward but I just got it and have never even started it but is was said to be in good shap. I have never noticed that before thanks
