I'm in the process of purchasing a 1997 Sea Ray 175 Bow Rider (6 Cyl). It was not used too much the first 5 to 6 years and then it was stored for about 4 years (wrapped and stored outside on a lot). It was winterized including running the engine once a year, while in storage. The boat is in pretty good shape and with some $$ investment and lots of elbow grease I think I can bring her back to life. My main concern is with the engine. I want to make sure it is functional after the periods of non-use (prior to purchasing the boat). The Marine center taking care of the boat and responsible for storing it over the past 4 years for the owners, suggested a dynomometer test, in order to give me a level of confidence in the engine performance (without the need to put it in the water). Can anyone familiar with this type of scenario tell me if the dyno test is a good indicator of engine robustness? Would a compression test of each cylinder suffice instead of the dyno test? I know there are other items that would need to be checked after outside storage like this, but I feel if I have a good level of confidence in the engine and drive I will have a good starting point for my first boat.
Thanks
