I had a1989 115 and pulled the oil injection after rebuilding the engine.I just pulled off the pump and removed the shaft inside and put the pump back on then removed and plugged all the oil lines.that was 10 years ago and i just sold it to get a 135HP.IT ran great.

No I have been using it for a couple of years now, I add some oil to the first gas for the start-up but then go to straight gas after that is used up I marked the oil tank and it does drop. I once bleed the oil pump and it has been working, It just a old engine and I was wandering the longevity of the oil injection system.

I recently replaced a 1983 Johnson 115 hp that had the oil injection disabled. I bought a 1990 Mariner 115 and asked the mechanic about disabling the oil injection he explained that Mercury uses a gear driven injection pump vs OMC's bellow driven pump and is much more reliable.

The MERCURY uses a plastic / nylon gear to drive the oil pump.-----That gear has been known to fail.

Not the personal experience I have had.

Deep C Mark , Yea that is what I wanted to know reliable what the mechanic said. Like I said motor never over heated it does not have a lot of hrs on it so I will continue to use it. This is a 2+2 motor but it runs pretty good.

1996 Mariner with close to 400 hrs that I was using up until last year and the oil injection worked just fine. I'd still be using it, but a deal on a Yamaha F150 was too good to pass up.

When I ran OMC motors I bypassed the oil injection as the reputation was questionable. Now I have a 92 merc, with oil injection. After much research and talks with numerous mechanics, they have assured me they are reliable. One guy works for a decent size marina and claims he has never saw a failure from a Merc system but numerous failures from omc injection systems. Mine works very well, hope it stays that way!!!! It is nice not having to mix oil in my fuel, andvthe motor runs so well, even down to a slooooow idle !!!

oil injection is a easy test! just premix a gallon or two of oil and unhook the inlet line to fuel mixture from the pump! run at 1500 rpms with the lever hooked to the throttle linkage measure the ccs for 3 minutes the book tells you how many then unhook the linkage and do the same if its within range its ok! lot better than having to mix oil all the time!

I always run injection 2 cycle rather than just any 2 cycle oil.
In all my years of boating, I have used " Pennzoil" 2 cycle oil with great sucess. Never had a engine issue or plug fouling issue. In my younger days I worked part time for a local marine mechanic and he swore by Pennzoil and I guess it just stuck with me. I did see that the TCW3 is for premix or injection systems. When I bought my new to me used Merc oil injected motor I ask him what oil he has been using...showed me his bottle of Pennzoil TCW3......cant argue with sucess !!
