I have a 50hp spl that is giving fits. I have taken it to the shop three times now and they cant seem to get it together. The first problem is that it would stall out and run 2500 rpm. We did about a 10 mile run everything ran fine the water was kinda ruff we fished and took a cut to the inner coastal to smoother water while running through the cut the boat bogged and set down never but never died. I throttled up and when it got 2500 rpms or so it bogged. Took it to a boat shop they had it for a week and I went and picked it up. They rebuilt the carbs and said that they found a pinched wire causing it to go into safe mode. I went back to the bay put in the watter and the same thing happened. I took it back and they put a new power pack and temperture senser. I took it back to the bay ran the boat for a day (in smooth water) It ran good but I noticed running from hole to hole the rpms would jump up and idle fast. I went out the next moring and fished and when coming back in after 4hrs out I came up to the dock and when I pulled back to nuetral the motor ran away up to 6000 rpms I turned the key off and pulled the kill cord it still continued to run away. I pulled the fuel line and it finally ran out of fuel without blowing the motor but it did shell the lower unit when I pulled it out of gear. I blame the runaway to bad adjustment on the carbs. I took it back and they rebuilt the lower unit. Today I took it out and now I am back to problem one where it goes into safe mode it did it right off the bat. If you turn the key off and restart the engine it resets and it will run up to about 3500 rpms if you try to take it much over 4000 rpm it will bog back down. The fuel tank is in the center consol so I thought I would try to squeze the bulb and see if that helped there is a storage box over the tank and the bulb I removed the cover and the bulb was tight. I restarted the engine and it ran great for about 8 miles. I ran over some pretty rough water for about half of that and then bam it cuts out again. I never got it to run good again. I limbed it back to the ramp it seemed to run fine at 3500rpms. When I loaded it on to the trailer I wanted to see if I could get it to bog to simulate running it in a tank like at the boat shop. I could not get it to stall it would get to 4000 rpms but would not bog down. I think its a loose wire somewhere. Anybody got any ideas. Oh and the VRO was removed prior to me owning it I premix. Help before I go broke. $1600 in repairs thus far.
