1997 7.4L MPI IAC valve location and removal

Can anyone confirm location and procedure for getting to IAC valve. The manual I have says remove flame arrestor, disconnect throttle linkage, use a stud driver to remove throttle body, then rotate throttle body 90 deg to get to IAC on back of throttle body.

Is it not possible to unclip the wire harness and take out the two screws on the IAC body without taking apart the throttle body.

Maybe but really doubtful
It's pretty tight in there and your only talking about one gasket if TB is not removed. IMO just remove the TB

If you’re careful you could use a good pair of vice grips to remove the 4 studs vs a stud puller if this is needed in your case of hesitance of wanting to remove as usually about the strength of a slap of the hand pressure would break the torque of holding down tight free.

It’s easier to remove the body to R&R the iac but you’ll want a new TB gasket to avoid potential engine running issues.


A good decision on this was here too,

If you’re careful you could use a good pair of vice grips to remove the 4 studs vs a stud puller if this is needed in your case of hesitance of wanting to remove as usually about the strength of a slap of the hand pressure would break the torque of holding down tight free.

It’s easier to remove the body to R&R the iac but you’ll want a new TB gasket to avoid potential engine running issues.

Thanks, this is a big help. Which item number is the fuel pressure regulator or is that on another page? What about the MAP and MAT, mine are likely original 1997s? Or if they are not broken dont "fix" those?

MAP and MAT are the same page... Numbers 19 and 45... Need your engine serial number but the regulator is on another page found on the fuel rail.

But yep, not broke don't touch or even call its name in thought or it will come a calling.👽🤑👻😱:oops:
