Tiller throttle will only advance halfway. Motor runs fine but the throttle will only twist half open. The motor ran out of gas and when I refilled it and cranked it, it cranked first pull but twist throttle litterally wont twist but half way either at idle neutral or in gear.

Which OB brand is it to start with ? Disconnect throttle cable, rod ? at carb side and twist grip fully without load, check if carb and timing plate are opening all the way when throttled with finger. Correct the failing side that has some kind of acceleration restriction. Throttle grip will open fully as before.

The motor is a 1997 Yamaha 15 hp two stroke. I just got the motor...it was running fine...cranked easily ran very well. It almost ran out of gas...sputtered into the dock. I filled the tank with fresh gas and it cranked on the first pull...no sputtering, no rough idle. When I attempt to throttle up the grip will only turn half way. The motor is running right, no missing. Just cannot turn the throttle past half open. The motor is only running half open...not enough to get on plane.

Thanks. Working on it today. As you may have guessed, I’m not an outboard mechanic! Retired English teacher...pretty much a mechanical moron.

there are time when a simple screw or nut falls out of where it should be and gets in the way of linkages working.
Just have to look around to see if you can find what is holding things up

Don't worry, none of use was born with mechanical squills right from the cradle, it's a learning curve that can take years to achieve. If mechanically inclined less, if not more..
