It's your primer solenoid. Only has to do with starting. Keep the arrow parallel with the solenoid and you're okay. Has nothing to do with oiling.

Re: 1997 130 evinrude

What probs??

I just got this boat and haven't had time to get a service manual, my problem is the boat cranks very well with a little rough idle. I carried it to the lake it took off very good, planed out and started stumbling and died ....cranked back up and would not take the gas, i cleaned lines, filter and checked the fuel pump and it seems to be pumping but not continuous more like squirting. Don't know what else to do to solve this problem. i tried checking the air vent on fuel tank and it is open, checked for air leaks and nothing, took the fuel pump apart to check the diaphram and it seems to be in good shape also.......any other advice would be appreciated.

When you take it to the lake and it acts up, try pushing in the key switch to activate the primer and see if it picks up. If it does, you have some carb probs.
