My 1996 Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke needs an oil change. Online parts diagrams show a drain plug behind the starboard lower cowl. I pulled both cowls, there isn't one. OMC service manual doesn't even mention draining oil at all. Before I resort to sucking it out the dipstick tube, is there an oil drain anywhere on this '96 Evinrude by Tohatsu 9.9?

I could be wrong about Tohatsu origin but that's what I was told. I am not wrong about the missing plug. There is no obvious drain on either side. E10FREOC

That be funny and strange.-----I have 3 of these motors.----I can find the drain plug !!!!----And the engine oil plug appears to be the same part # as the drainplug for the gearcase.

If you can find the drain plug, please do share the location.

I cannot find either of those model numbers but the drain plug is #24 in this diagram

Not sure, but drawing it up through the dipstick tube on your 4-stroke might be more efficient in emptying the crankcase.

The drain plug is at the very bottom of the sump.----It is on the PORT side of the motor.

What device were you thinking of using to draw it up through the dipstick tube?

Tohatsu 4 stroke 9.9 series started in 2000. You may have a Suzuki Evinrude.

Racerone, thank you for the help. I found it. It was painted over and I was so obsessed with it being behind the cowl (that's what I was told) that I didn't see it. Once found, I felt like an idiot. Even so, thank you.

Not a ----SUZUKI ----Built motor either !!-----And JOHNSON marketed small 4 strokes built by SUZUKI from 2002 and on for a few years.----I do not believe EVINRUDE marketed small ( 9,9 / 15 HP ) 4 strokes built by SUZUKI.

Looks just like a Suzuki Evinrude I worked on a year ago. I confirmed thaqt the LU drain plugs were not the typical 8 mm of the Tohatsu, but rather 10 mm Suzuki size.
