1996 Penta 5.0Fi and SX COBRA

Hey y'all!!!! I wanted to come on and thank you so much for the help. I ended up replacing the fuel filter, both fuel pumps, then the fuel regulator, vacuum hoses and was still having issues .... Just would die immediately after put it in gear in the water...... Finally, after talking to a buddy that knows the old Ford 5.0 motors from that time, we came up with the MAP sensor. Changed it out yesterday.... For the first time ever, it will idle in gear!!!! Cruised around for about 20 minutes. She ran really well. Again thanks so much for the help.

I had that engine in a 1995 Four Winns 190 horizon. Overall it was a great engine, but we did have two issues with it.
1. At about 275 hours we had an exhaust flapper valve come loose and mostly block the exhaust where it passes through the transom. The dealer couldn't find it. After talking with Four Winns tech support, they suggested this. The engine ran fine except for higher speed.
2. After maybe 10 years, we had a fuse near the engine fail. The fuse was a larger size glass tube fuse maybe 50 amps supplying electrical power to the engine. It corroded and didn't make contact, so the engine was dead. With a new fuse and holder it ran perfectly again.
We ran that boat for 18 seasons and put more than 2000 hours on it.
