1996 Mercury 75 hp not charging?

I switched motors on my 2006 Tracker from a 2006 60 hp Merc to a 1996 75 hp. The tach works find but,the charging gauge shows minus when I run the boat and I have to charge the battery after ever 2 times I run the boat? Any suggestions?

That behavior usually indicates that the rectifier or voltage regulator are bad. There are a lot of models of 75HP from 1996, so I cannot tell what exactly you have in the charging system. You might get a serial number or model number and look on the crowleymarine site and see what you have. Voltage regulators and rectifiers are avail aftermarket, so a search on the part number could turn up a cheaper version.
