Guys - I'm hoping this should be pretty easy to answer. I have a 96 mariner 90 hp 3 cylinder outboard that I just replaced the stator and switchbox on. I am now buttoning everything up but for the life of me I didn't mark which coil wire goes where from the switchbox. I have a green, a green w white, and a green w pink. Anyone able to point me to a schematic or know which cylinder they go to? Thanks in advance for the help.

green/red goes on 1, green goes on 2 and green/white goes on 3 if it's like 96 merc with 1-2-3 firing order

Helpful - now I don't recall which cylinder is 1 and which is 3. Is 1 on top or the bottom? Thanks for the assistance.

Well guys - couldn't get that to work so did a whole bunch of reaearch. Turns out after rotating the flywheel and watching the Pistons I have a 1,3,2 firing cycle. The problem is CDI said that there are 4 different configurations for this type of motor so i have to do some more research and work to try to figure this out. Huge lessons learned - take a dang picture next time. Anyone have this exact motor and can help? 1996 Mariner 90hp 3 cylinder.

Just hook the wires as they are color coded to the coded terminals on switchbox and your good to go...The coils wires are grn/wht stripe,grn-red stripe and grn and the switchbox has raised imput with these codes on it...

Well guess Mariner kept the 1-3-2 firing order. My manual showed Merc changed to 1-2-3 in 1996 unless you really have a 95. Glad you figured it out.

image1.JPG Hey Guys - I can't thank enough for the help. Unfortunately I think my starter is now shot so work on it has been halted. That said, I have a new starter coming and will work on it after my business trip this week. So I took some pics to help a more visual guy like me. Please take a look and let me know if I am thinking correctly here. The first pic shows the way the wires are coming from the box. As you can see. green white comes out on top, followed by green/red, followed by green. So am I correct in assuming that this should be the order of the cylinders as well? (Green/White to 1 (top); Green/Red to 2; and Green to 3) or should it be reversed (green to top; green/red to 2; and green/white to 3?). Man I wish I had taken that picture before.

No, you can't go by that. That same switchbox could be used on diff applications with different firing orders, just have to wire it correctly. If you say your firing order is 1-3-2, should be green/red on 1, green/white on 2 and green on 3 which is same as my 1-3-2 firing order and colors of my 95 merc 90hp.
