1996 Larson 176 Flyer Prop ?

specs are 190 hp 4.3 gl
sx cobra out drive 1.97 ratio
current prop is Solas 14.5 X 19
WOT rating max of 4800


Ok so I just bought this boat, and at WOT it will turn 6,000 rpm. The prop has some small damage on it. looking to replace it. I dont need to go fast just need to not worry about the wife blowing the motor up by mistake. I have a WB tower on it, and will be pulling tubes, skies, and so on. could use some advise on how much prop would be to much. I'm thinking a 4 blade 21. But I have no experiance with 4 bladed props or this much motor. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Ayuh,... I'm thinkin' ya got the Wrong drive gear ratio, at 1.97:1...
With a Merc, that's a 4 cylinder ratio....

'n if yer turnin' 6 Grand, a 23" prop ain't gonna be enough to get the rpms down to where they gotta be...

What is the speed at 6000?Is it by gps?
Is the leg labeled 1.97.Probably for a 3.0.It does appear you could get a 25" pitch prop for about 4800 rpm.

Yes I got the drive ratio off of the lower unit tag. I'm not sure wat speed im running at WOT. I'm sure its turning way to many rpm's. I quess my next question is can I regear this housing or get a compleat out drive? Or try running a 25 pitch prop? Would putting a 25p prop on kill my low end? I realy dont need to go fast more of wakeboard speed is what i'm after.
